Mem 2.0

Guide for users transitioning from Mem 1.0 to Mem 2.0.

Mem 1.0 was a pioneer—it introduced semantic search, real-time related notes, and built-in AI chat before anyone else. But to truly deliver the fastest, easiest, and most reliable way to capture and organize your information, we needed a stronger foundation.

Mem 2.0 is that foundation. It’s been rigorously tested with Alpha users since September, and now it’s ready to support your most important work. In many ways, it will feel familiar. In some ways, it will feel new. But in every way, it’s more reliable.

As part of this transition, some older features won’t carry over to Mem 2.0. We’ve made these decisions to focus on speed, simplicity, and long-term reliability.

This guide is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the changes.

New Mem 2.0 Web App

The brand new Mem 2.0 experience will be available on Chrome, Safari, and Edge browsers, so you can bring up your Mem on any device, any time.

New Mem 2.0 iOS App

The Mem 2.0 iOS app, currently available only via TestFlight, will replace the Mem 1.0 iOS currently found in the app store. The Mem 2.0 iOS app was built from scratch, and includes all of the features from the web and desktop apps, so you can quickly capture, organize, and use your information on the go. We also redesigned the Share to Mem feature, making it easier than ever to save something you want to remember from another app to Mem.

New Mem 2.0 Mac App

In Mem 2.0, we have a new native experience for Mac, with updates shipping every week, so you will always have the latest features as we release them.

New Mem 2.0 Windows App

In Mem 2.0, we have a new native experience for Windows, with updates shipping every week, so you will always have the latest features as we release them.

New Tables

Mem 2.0’s new note editor has built-in support for tables, so you can easily store structured information within your notes.

New Deep Search

Mem 2.0 quickly brings up simple keyword matches first, and then loads in additional results found with AI, called Deep Search results, over the next few seconds. For example, when searching “cheesy dip”, Mem instantly pulls up the directly matching “Cheese Dip Recipe” note. A few seconds later, Mem finds a Deep Search result “Roasted Red Pepper Queso”, which doesn’t contain any of the search terms, but is relevant to your search query.

New Time-Aware Chat

In Mem 2.0, we’ve designed Chat to have a deep understanding of time relative to your knowledge, so you can ask Chat about “the draft I wrote yesterday”, “the meeting with Christina last month”, or “the candidates I talked to last week.”

New Side-by-Side Chat

Mem 2.0 introduces the ability to chat side-by-side with a specific note or collection. This gives you even more precision and focus in your conversations and ensures the discussion is relevant to exactly what you’re working on. This also allows you to interact with a note or a collection without interrupting the flow of your dialogue with Chat.

New Copilot (formerly Related Notes)

Mem has always helped you surface and connect related information automatically, contextualizing your thoughts and unlocking insights without the need for manual organization. In Mem 2.0, we’ve built on the foundation of related notes and taken it to the next level, so you can easily connect the dots between your current and past ideas with more accuracy and insight. Copilot preloads related notes so it works when you’re offline, too.

New Shared Collections

Tagging a note with collections has always been the easiest way to organize the way you think, and in Mem 2.0, you can easily share this organization with others. At any point in time, you can share a collection with one or more people to enable them to quickly view, edit, and contribute notes to it.

New Instant Sync

Mem 2.0’s new sync system supports seamless usage across multiple devices and collaboration with multiple people. Mem automatically routes updates to ensure that you always see the most up-to-date version of content, no matter what device you’re on. And in shared settings, if multiple people edit a note or collection at the same time, Mem intelligently merges those changes in real-time. This allows you and your team to work together without worrying about overwriting each other’s work.

New Offline Mode

Mem 2.0 saves every change you make directly to your device for instant access and then syncs them to the cloud when you’re connected to the internet. Mem also preloads your notes and stores them on-device for fast access. This ensures you can capture and use your notes any time, even when you’re offline.

New Templates

Templates help you go from typing the same things over and over in your notes to quickly and consistently getting the exact structure you want in every note you create.

New Mem 2.0 API

In Mem 2.0, Shared Collections provide an easy way to shared many notes with the same set of people over time.
